Introduction
The Department of Paediatrics at KMRI takes special care of sick children. The centre delivers complete services for promoting robust and healthy children, our country’s future generation. We provide specialized support for children with development problems, infectious diseases, cancer, orthopaedics, genetic disorders etc. The paediatric department provides care for children from birth to 17 years of age, for all illnesses. The department consists of the general paediatric wards, the neonatal intensive care unit, paediatric outpatients and the children’s day surgery unit.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit : Neonatology is the specialized care of the sick new born including premature and tiny babies.
The NICU is equipped with latest technology in compliance with international standards such as Multifunctional Monitors; Conventional Ventilators; Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV); Dedicated Nasal CPAP devices; Blood Gas Analyzer; Incubator Care; Servo Controlled Digital Open Care Warmers; Double Surface Photo Therapy; Digital Syringe & Infusion Pumps. Experts in Developmental Supportive Care, include neonatologists, critical care specialists and intensivists. This caters to premature babies with special needs and those born after high-risk pregnancies such as following in vitro fertilization. The unit provides pre and postoperative management of neonatal emergencies.
The ICU team is highly qualified with experience abroad and is capable of dealing with complicated surgical cases.
Parents of babies admitted to the unit are allowed unlimited access to visit the baby. They are encouraged to actively participate in the day-to-day care of their baby. The unit conducts regular antenatal classes for expectant mothers. This increases awareness of the process of labor and birthing and prepares them for the time of delivery. Fathers are also encouraged to be present at the time of delivery.
